Our R&D scientists are the driving force behind our push to be the category leader in all aspects of next-generation emerging products.
Here, we shine a light on a few of our bright minds to find out what motivates and excites them to work with us.

"Scientific research is like training for me, as truth may only be reached after many failures in proving various hypothesis. Hope I can develop myself up through this training."
I had been engaged in nonclinical safety assessment for nearly 20 years, mainly on genotoxicity evaluation, in the pharmaceutical industry. I joined JT in 2017 and am mainly in charge of in vitro biological assessment of Reduced-Risk Products.
I have a PhD in agriculture and am a certified toxicologist of the Japan Toxicological Society.

"Science helps shed light on things nobody knew and resolve things that need to be tackled. I trust every research has something that makes people’s life better."
After PhD degree in agriculture, I joined JT in 2010. Since 2016, I have been involved in a project to consolidate various biological assessment results in order to assess the Reduced-Risk potential of the JT Group's proprietary products. I am now responsible for initiating new research projects, using state-of-the-art technologies.

"Truth can be one, but approach to identify it can be many. I believe ability of a scientist can be assessed by appropriateness of his/her methodology and evidence."
After obtaining PhD degree in agriculture, I joined JT in 2017. I have been conducting research on flavors for our products ever since. Current my work is to research the effects of aroma and taste substances on the human sensory mechanisms.

"Science excites me and gives a lot of ‘wow.’ This is because it can make unknown things known and solve many problems and annoyances we have every day."
I joined JT in 2012 and have been working in the group for analysis and assessment of product quality ever since.
From 2017, I have been responsible for the analysis of major chemical compounds in vapor and liquid of Reduced-Risk Products.

"Scientific research is like craftsmanship for me; it is conducted on state-of-the-art knowledge as well as on advanced skillsets, while following own inspirations and experiences."
After PhD degree in agriculture specializing in food chemistry, I joined JT in 2003. I am now responsible for flavor and taste design for electronic cigarettes and tobacco vapor products.

"Science for me is something what creates the future; it helps identify what is unknown and make impossible possible. I am very much fascinated with its vast possibilities."
I have been working in a research team for analysis of devices and batteries. Now I am primarily responsible for analysis of batteries used in our devices as well as evaluation of their performances.

“What fascinates me much is discoveries and inventions from science can transform our lifestyle, or completely new values for us can be created from there.”
Since 2017, I have been working on improving Reduced-Risk Products quality standards through the evaluation of safety and functionality of batteries and devices.

“Science is a tool to convert various invisible phenomena into simple concepts; these concepts can help interpret various independent results easily and also help predict outcome accurately.”
After various careers in tobacco research, which began in JT in 2001, I became involved in tobacco vapor products development in 2015. I obtained PhD in engineering and now I research the generation mechanisms of chemical compounds in vapor from products.

“Science is indispensable for human life and its evolution. What fascinates me most is there is no end point in science.”
After PhD degree in pharmacology, I joined JT in 2008 and have worked on researching aroma components in tobacco smoke. After a two-year assignment at the Research Institute for Chromatography in Belgium, I am researching on flavor and taste for tobacco vapor products.

“Science can be new lingua franca in today’s world. Important however is to make efforts to keep up with its progress, as it’s rewriting truth and common sense every day.”
I joined JT in 1990 and I had held various research responsibilities in both the pharmaceutical and the tobacco business divisions. I worked on multiple Reduced-Risk assessment initiatives since 2001, and am currently responsible for evaluating technologies for assessment of product stewardship and potentials for risk reduction.

“Science for me is something that gives me surprise and ‘wow.’ It keeps me passionate, since there is no final end no matter how far you would go.”
I joined JT in 2017 and am involved in developing inspection methods for various quality parameters of products.

“I never wanted to be anything else apart from a scientist. Science gives you the chance to explore something that no one else has seen before – to be the first.”
Having studied biotechnology and obtained a PhD in analytical biochemistry, I joined the Vienna laboratory in 2012. I am closely involved in testing new Reduced-Risk Products.
